Forex Trading Cost Calculator
Compare two account quotes using spread, commission per side, slippage and financing. All defaults are illustrative inputs, not live broker prices.
Compare the complete round trip
Total cost = lots × (spread × pip value per lot + 2 × commission per side + total slippage pips × pip value per lot) + total financing cost. The spread is counted once for a round trip. A per-side commission is counted twice. Financing is the total for the position and holding period, not a per-lot daily number. Enter credits as negative financing costs.
The default example produces A = 12 and B = 9 account-currency units, a difference of 3. These are sample prices. Replace them with comparable quotes from the same instrument, session and trade size. An advertised minimum spread is not an average spread.
How to use the result
The break-even move divides all entered costs by your position’s pip value. It is an approximation for a constant spread and conversion rate. Add expected order slippage once; do not also add slippage already captured in an executed-price P/L comparison.
Use financing estimates for overnight positions and read the broker comparison for entity and account checks.
Frequently asked questions
Is spread charged twice in this comparison?
No. The spread is included once for the round trip. Commission entered per side is counted twice. Do not add spread again when it is already represented by executed entry and exit prices.
Are these live broker prices?
No. The defaults are examples. Enter comparable spread and fee quotes for the same symbol, session, volume and holding period.

Convert a round-trip commission quote before entering it
The calculator's commission fields are per lot, per side. If a flat quote states 7 USD per lot for opening and closing together, enter 3.50 in the matching account's commission field. The calculator counts two sides and scales by the trade volume. If the quote is already per side, keep that per-side amount.
Do not scale the commission input to 0.10 lot yourself. Keep the per-lot figure in the commission field and enter 0.10 in Trade volume. Use the same account currency for the pip value, commission and financing amounts.
Worked example: a quote-unit mistake can reverse the comparison
Assume a USD account, 0.10 lot and 10 USD pip value per 1 lot, with zero slippage and financing allowances. These are hypothetical quotes:
- Account A: 1.2-pip spread, no commission. Cost = 0.10 × 1.2 × 10 = 1.20 USD.
- Account B: 0.2-pip spread and 7 USD per lot for the complete round trip. Enter 3.50 per side. Spread cost is 0.20 USD and commission is 0.10 × 2 × 3.50 = 0.70 USD, giving 0.90 USD total.
Entering 7 in the per-side field would instead show B at 1.60 USD, making it appear more expensive than A. That difference comes from the input convention, not a change in broker pricing.
Confirm whether the actual schedule charges per lot or per deal, in which currency, and on entry, exit or both. Minimum charges, tiers and unequal entry/exit fees may not fit this simple flat-rate example. Use comparable instrument, account and session quotes; a cheaper cost estimate alone does not establish eligibility or suitability.
